Miss Maybell and her Ragtime Romeos

Community Arts Center

Wallingford, PA 19086
This band reminds us of a time when phonograph records and motion pictures were in their infancy and live performance ruled. Lauren Sansaricq brought her (then titled) Jazz Age Artistes to Tri-State in May 2023 and they were a big hit - don't miss them today!
“Miss Maybell (Lauren Sansaricq) has a vocal style that is similar to that of the classic blues singers of the era, ranging from Ethel Waters to Bessie Smith without copying any one vocalist. She puts plenty of bluesy feeling into the songs (which include both vintage blues and vaudeville-type songs), she swings, and she also plays washboard. Pianist Charlie Judkins is a ragtime and stride pianist and is very much a complete band by himself in addition to begin a tasteful accompanist.” (LA Jazz Scene)
And Miss Maybell and Charlie are joined by accompanists Charlie Judkins, Dan Levinson, Brian Nalepka and Andy Stein, recreating the ensemble that was such a success at Birdland in NYC last November. Today they make their Tri-State Jazz debut!

Glenn Crytzer returns with his Quartet to Tri-State, playing music from the Jazz Age and the Swing Era - "Vintage American Jazz". Glenn draws on the broad repertoire of styles of jazz that were performed prior to World War II. This includes the earliest jazz from New Orleans around the turn of the 20th century, and the styles that were part of the gradual morphing into the "hot jazz" style played by the dance orchestras (early big bands) and combos of the 1920s. People associate these sounds with Prohibition, speakeasies, gangsters, the Jazz Age, and the Great Gatsby. Glenn's All-Stars quartet recreates a small-group combo with accomplished vintage jazz specialists. Their superlative musicianship and unbridled swing is fueled by each musician's genuine love for playing pre-war jazz, making every performance one to remember.
