Philly Stomp! is authentic New Orleans swinging jazz like you heard from the Twenties right up to today on Basin and Bourbon Streets and in the French Quarter. Philly Stomp! will bring your audience the sounds of New Orleans with a six piece ensemble playing traditional vintage New Orleans jazz classics dating back to the turn of the 20th century. Among the repertoire are several arrangements by noted bassist and band leader, Ed Wise, a mainstay of the New Orleans music scene.

Background

Dave Posmontier has been playing piano since the age of 7 and professionally for the past 50 years. A pianist, organist, composer, arranger and teacher, he has performed and recorded with many jazz artists including Christian McBride, James Moody, Chris Potter, John Swana, Mike Richmond, Larry McKenna, Grover Washington Jr., David "Fathead" Newman, and Johnny Hartman. Dave's 2010 CD, Posterity features his original compositions as well as some well-known standards, and he recently released a live acoustic trio CD, Deep Pockets. In celebration of its 100th birthday in 2007, the renowned Settlement Music School is honoring 100 alumni who have made a difference in the world of music. Dave and his brother Rich have been chosen to receive this honor.

Charly Salinger has been the principal clarinetist with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra since 1978. He is also a member of the Delaware Symphony Woodwind Quintet, Opera Delaware, Princeton Opera Theater Orchestra, the Pennsy Pops, and the Philly Pops. In 1999, Mr. Salinger won the position of principal clarinet in the Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra. Charly has also played with the Houston Opera Company, the Philadelphia Lyric Opera Company, the Allentown and Lancaster Symphonies and the Princeton Chamber Orchestra. In addition to performing with classical groups, Mr. Salinger also free-lances with several Jazz, Dixieland, Pop, and Klezmer bands.

Trombonist Fred Scott has participated in a wide range of musical experiences. After graduating from the Philadelphia Musical Academy, he toured the US, Europe and Japan with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He later went on to play at the legendary Latin Casino backing up performers including Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, Sammy Davis, Jr., Tony Bennett, Nancy Wilson and Johnny Mathis. His Broadway show credits include the initial run of "Sophisticated Ladies" with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. He has also performed with Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, Peter Nero, The Harry James Orchestra and The Phil Woods Big Band. He is currently on the faculty of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Grant MacAvoy has been active nationally for the past twenty-five years. His jazz credits include performances and recordings with George Benson, Bob James, Arthur Prysock, Lionel Hampton and Michel Legrand. In the world of pop music, he has recorded with Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, The Miracles, Barry White, and Sergio Mendes. On Broadway, drumming for Marvin Hamlish and Andrea McArdle have been a highlight. Grant is currently residing in Philadelphia, performing, producing and teaching.

Stan Slotter has been active on the Philadelphia music scene for many years. Trained as a classical player both on trumpet and on flute, Stan decided early in his career that jazz and popular music were closer to his heart. He began playing professionally at age 15 and has since developed a successful career as a versatile freelance player. His favorite styles include jazz and Latin jazz, salsa, world music, Dixieland, big band, Klezmer and Israeli music. Among Stan's special moments were performances with Cecil Taylor at Carnegie Hall and with Philly Joe Jones at Livingston College. He has recorded Klingon Klezmer, Seamus Egan, Ronnie James and the Jazz Hot Swing Club and others.

David Brodie started playing the electric bass at the age of thirteen and first took on the upright bass at nineteen while enrolled at Berklee College of Music. After a year in Spain, he returned to his native Philadelphia where he quickly joined up with guitarist Jimmy Bruno, with whom he played for the next several years. From that point, his reputation well established, Brodie has enjoyed a busy playing and recording career and has performed with some of the world's greatest jazz musicians including Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Potter, Seamus Blake, Steve Wilson, and Randy Brecker while performing regularly with some of Philadelphia's finest such as Larry McKenna, John Swana, and Joanna Pascale.
