Tri-State Jazz Society favorite Steve Barbone, who has played with jazz greats from Coleman Hawkins to Sydney Bechet to Bob Haggart to Thelonious Monk, says: "Having worked with the Perseverance Jazz Band on numerous occasions, I can attest to the professionalism of their performances. They bring youth, vigor, energy and a love of New Orleans Jazz to the table. And they have a wonderful vocalist. Everyone who supports our kind of music should come out and hear their July 20 offering at the Tri-State Jazz Society Concert. For they are the future of the music we love."

And Don Jones, Publisher of The American Rag, says: "...Perseverance Jazz Band is off the charts fantastic. I love [their] different approach. It demands that I pay attention and listen for all the vocal/instrumental nuances."

Perseverance Jazz Band was started in a West Philly group house in September 2010 by Jonathan Davenport and an eclectic group of young musicians. Originally organized to play early Dixieland and New Orleans parade music, the band has since expanded its repertoire to include small band Swing. Co-led by Jonathan and Cecilia, and featuring Cecilia's vocals on many songs, Perseverance Jazz Band has become a local favorite for private parties and weddings and has toured the Northeast, South and Midwest playing for swing dance organizations. The band has made a point to play with and learn from tradition bearers in the Tri-State area and has played concerts for the Philadelphia International Festival for the Arts, the Cape May Jazz Society and the Illiana Club among many others.
