Perseverance Jazz Band
Jonathan Davenport - Bass, Co-Leader
Perseverance Jazz Band was started in a West Philly group house in September 2010 by Jonathan Davenport and an eclectic group of young musicians. Originally organized to play early Dixieland and New Orleans parade music, the band has since expanded its repertoire to include small band Swing. Co-led by Jonathan and Cecilia, and featuring Cecilia's vocals on many songs, Perseverance Jazz Band has become a local favorite for private parties and weddings and has toured the Northeast, South and Midwest playing for swing dance organizations. The band has made a point to play with and learn from tradition bearers in the Tri-State area and has played concerts for the Philadelphia International Festival for the Arts, the Cape May Jazz Society and the Illiana Club among many others.
Wallingford Community Arts Center
The Community Arts Center, located near I-476 (the "Blue Route") between Media and Swarthmore in Delaware County, is home to Tri-State Jazz Society's Pennsylvania concerts. Five or six concerts a year, featuring traditional jazz bands and solo pianists are presented in the main art gallery of the center. The piano is excellent, as are the acoustics, and the atmosphere is bright and congenial. Complimentary refreshments are served during intermission.
TRI-STATE JAZZ SOCIETY
