Tri-State Jazz Society Presents...
Ben Mauger's Vintage Dixieland Jazz Band & Roaring '20s Jazz Orchestra - September 15, 2013

PHILADELPHIA - Ben Mauger's Vintage Dixieland Jazz Band and his Roaring '20s Jazz Orchestra will play for Tri-State Jazz Society on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m.  This concert will be at the Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford, PA 19086. The recent movie “The Great Gatsby” has rekindled interest in The Roaring ‘20s. Come hear Ben and his two bands play a repertoire of some of the sizzling original jazz tunes of that era, as well as Dixieland classics.  Half-price admission is $10, available for first-time attendees and members; general admission is $20.  High school and college students with IDs and children accompanied by a paying adult are free.  Pay at the door; there are no advance sales or reservations. The Community Arts Center is less than a mile from the Media-Swarthmore exit of I-476 (the "Blue Route").  There's free parking.  For information call (856) 720-0232 or visit: www.tristatejazz.org.

Background

Perennial Tri-State favorite Ben Mauger once again brings two hot bands for a raucous afternoon of traditional jazz and Dixieland favorites.  The Vintage Jazz Band will play old-time hot jazz from the 1920s-‘30s as well as NYC-style swing revival jazz made famous in the ‘50s and ‘60s, and the 10-piece Roaring ‘20s Jazz Orchestra will play a selection of Gatsby-era dance numbers that’ll have you wishing you could shimmy like your sister Kate.

“A few years ago while playing at the Hot Steamed Festival in Essex CT,” Mauger has explained, “I had the pleasure of hearing the great Vince Giordano’s Nighthawk band. WOW! I knew right then I’d love to play that music as well... and told myself that when I retired... I would form a similar band right here in Pennsylvania. So that’s exactly what I did.” Ben’s groups have since become mainstays at prestige jazz venues and festivals up and down the East Coast.

Wallingford Community Arts Center

The Community Arts Center, located near I-476 (the "Blue Route") between Media and Swarthmore in Delaware County, has become a favorite Tri-State Jazz venue. The piano at CAC is excellent, as are the acoustics, and the atmosphere is bright and congenial. Tri-State Jazz Society continues to present a number of band and solo piano concerts in the main gallery of the center as part of the center's expanded music program.
