The Rampart Street Ramblers takes its name from that legendary street in old New Orleans upon which jazz music originated, once flourished, and still carries on its grand glory today. The group was formed in order to carry on, to perpetuate the illustrious tradition of the original, traditional New Orleans style of Dixieland jazz music. Dave Wilson last performed for Tri-State Jazz Society as the leader of the Canal Street Hot 6 and he recorded the CD Back in the Day with that group. All the Rampart Street Ramblers musicians should also be familiar to Tri-State Jazz Society audiences from their recent performances with other groups.

Founded by jazz clarinet and saxophone stylist Dave Wilson, the Rampart Street Ramblers are comprised of a group of top-notch “Traditional” music players:

Dave Wilson - Leader, Clarinet, Saxophones, leader of The Dave Wilson Quartet, and formerly the Canal Street Hot 6. From concerts to festivals to club dates and private engagements, Wilson averages over 150 gigs per year and has held that number steady since 1990.

Tex Wyndham - Piano and Cornet, leader of the Red Lion Jazz Band,  piano soloist, singer, noted jazz author and recognized authority on ragtime and early jazz..

Drew Nugent - Piano and Cornet, leader of the Midnight Society Jazz Orchestra and last played for TSJS in April. During the summer of 2006, Drew worked for the Delta Queen Steamboat Company, playing piano and singing aboard the Delta Queen and Mississippi Queen.

Roger Munnell - Trombone, leader of the Tarnished 6 of State College, PA; played and recorded with Tex Wynham's Rent Party Revellers; played in traditional jazz festivals throughout the U.S. and  in Europe.

John Kovalchik - Tuba, member of The Tarnished 6 of State College, PA and has played in festivals in Golden, Colorado and Copenhagen, Denmark.

Skip Rohrich - Drums, member of the Blackbird Society Orchestra. He was last heard at TSJS at the June jam session and in April with Drew Nugent's Midnight Society Jazz Orchestra.

Members of the band have appeared with this group or in other groups, at Tri-State Jazz Society,  the Hot Steamed Jazz Festival (Connecticut), People's Choice Dixieland Music Festival in State College, Pennsylvania, Camden Yards for Baseball's Baltimore Orioles, The Pennsylvania Jazz Society and the Bethlehem (Pa.) Muskfest and at many other central Pennsylvania and Philadelphia area venues.

See Dave's Web site, www.davewilsonmusic.org for more about the Rampart Street Ramblers and his other groups, including the contemporary Dave Wilson Quartet.  Their recorderdings of contemporary jazz, have have brought the group recognition since 2002 through on-air play at WRTI-FM in Philadelphia and nationally. Their newest recording, Spiral was released June 15 by Summit, a national label.
